My parents were avid gardeners. Not only did they enjoy the beauty of the flora and fauna in nature they also loved to garden. My father would kneel on the ground to plant new flowers and my mother would come up with amazing landscaping designs. I did not realize that I had a gardener in me till the time I moved to USA three plus decades ago!!! The summer squash and the radiant roses sparked my spirit alike and evoked nostalgia from a bygone time. Indeed the dormant gardener in my heart is one of the best gifts from my parents. The magical Iris in yellow and purple I planted a decade ago in our front yard appear every spring to remind us of the timeless wisdom, " to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow."
I met Megan Mcfeely, the documentary film maker of As she is, ( http://as-she-is.org/official_trailer/ ) at the Women Gathering for Change, peace conference in Alexandria, Egypt, past March. The entire audience was moved by the journey of her life and unfolding beautifully captured in the film. It's a film that no one can pause it till it ends. A True soul searching and soul reclaiming film of the heart. It gives us much to reflect upon and then challenges us to leap beyond the limitations of fear. This film is intended to restore the balance that we all possess within. Megan McFeely has done a beautiful job of awakening a deeper sense of what we ought to be as women and as one humanity, through the power of love and authenticity manifested in this film.
Lotus is held in high esteem in many cultures and faith traditions. Lotus represents evolution of consciousness, rebirth, victory, purity and beauty in the ancient civilizations of Egypt and India. This plant is born in the muddy water and grows tall in height. The flower blooms over the water and looks up to heaven. It builds a bridge between heaven and earth; it guides our ways above and beyond the petty and mundane to the realms of vast and extraordinary.
Some time a simple act of walking in nature or greeting neighbors with a sunny smile can evoke a sense of peace. Peace is a state of mind which is in harmony with the body, mind and spirit. In a state of peace one feels centered, relaxed, joyful and mindful. A peaceful person has learned to forget and forgive. Without letting go of resentment and hurt true peace can not be achieved. Every day presents itself with a new opportunity to fill the cup of life with new vision and hope.
